| Brief History In 1986 the LCBA Committee decided to instigate a prestigious members only annual Swiss Pairs event. Malcolm & Christine Jones presented "The Jones Trophy" to the LCBA for this competition. The initial prize list for the Jones Trophy, as the competition was called, included £50 for the winners and extending to tenth place vastly exceeded that for any of our other events. The first competition was held on 4 January 1987. After a successful run entries dropped off in the mid-nineties and this competition was last held in 1997. When two years later we instigated a Handicap Pairs event to cater for a wider range of players Malcolm & Christine agreed that the trophy be transferred to this new competition. |
