| Brief History
In 1963 the LCBA committee decided, following the death of Hyman Crammer, that the LCBA should commemorate
his contribution, principally but not exclusively as LCBA Treasurer 1956-62, to local bridge, by the
purchase of "The Hyman Crammer Memorial Salver". The first competition for this was a 45 board Sunday Howell - entry being by ranking in the 'County Trials' - which were a series of pairs competitions held for that purpose. For many years the basic format remained the same - a final with qualification via playing in a number of heats (typically best 3 or 4 results to count). Eventually the County Trials ceased to be central trials becoming county-wide pairs, with clubs able to run their own series of heats. This latter arrangement did not however last long, and in 1990 the Hyman Crammer became an invitation event to which each LCBA club was invited to nominate their 'champion pair'. This format proved more successful and has continued until the present day. |
