Defence is a much harder part of the game than declarer play. It requires
players to think clearly, to count and to try to place the unseen cards.
There are few pairs who can claim to be good at defence – within the
county I need no more than the fingers of one hand to count them all. Too
sweeping a statement? Too insulting? Perhaps that’s true – so if you are
affronted see if you would have got this hand right at the table.
