It is near the end of a close match and the result on this hand may be the deciding factor. We are playing old fashioned methods
(strong, ACOL type two-bids) and, with eight playing tricks, I have a hand suitable for a 2
opening bid. This, of course, is forcing for
one round. (Some pairs have a two-bid as strong but not absolutely forcing. They write "Not absolutely forcing" as an
acronym on their convention card, not realising that "NAF" is in inadvertently appropriate description of the system.) Partner responds
2NT to show a weak responding hand and I content myself with a rebid of 3
. After his negative response partner is not obliged to bid
again over this but he dredges up a raise to 4
