It is my style to open this hand with 1spade; I don't understand the common local practice of opening 1club on this sort of hand. If you do open 1club and partner responds 1heart what do you rebid - 1NT? If so, you have made a neat attempt to bury the all-important Spade suit. This hand has easy rebids if you do open 1spade - if partner responds at the two-level you can rebid 2NT and anything else leaves you well placed.

Having opened 1spade partner responds 2diamond. I rebid 2NT and partner raises that to game. It has been a simple auction:
