Definitions of Expert and Non-Expert Players

For the purposes of determining who may play and/or win restricted prizes in LCBA Competitions:

A player who either

•  is/was either a nominated player for a League Division 1 or 2 team or has been selected to represent Leicestershire in a Midland League match, in the current or two immediately previous seasons, or

•  has played in total for all such teams on five or more (two or more in the case of events held prior to Christmas) occasions in total in the current season, or

•  was in January 2008 ranked by the EBU as a Tournament Master or above (this includes Premier Masters), or in the opinion of the TSC would clearly have achieved such ranking had all his MPs been submitted to the EBU, or

•  has ever been selected to represent his country at any level or age-range, or

•  has in the opinion of the TSC otherwise demonstrated expert status

is deemed to be an expert.

Only pairs of which both members are experts may play in a competition for experts (Stanley Trophy).

A player who neither a) falls into one of the categories above, nor b) has played a significant part of his bridge abroad is deemed to be a non-expert.

Only pairs/teams of which both/all members are non-experts may either play in a competition for non-experts (Wilde Cup) or qualify for a non-expert prize in any other competition.

Any player who wishes to appeal against his classification should present his case in writing to either the Tournament Secretary or the General Secretary at least seven days prior to any event in which he wishes to play.
