The Cole Cup

Brief History

In June 1948 the committee decided there should be an Individual Championship and this was played for the first time in 1949. Mrs OJB (Molly) Cole subsequently became the third of the original thirteen players whose names became linked with a competition when she presented a silver cup for the annual winners.

In the early days this was a highly popular competition rivalling the Gimson Trophy and the Josephs Bowl, indeed at one time attracting more players than played in the Josephs Bowl. Subsequently interest in individual events waned and the competition has only been played twice since 1985.

In 1985 the competition was abandoned for 7 years due to lack of support. It was revived experimentally at the request of members in 1992, but support was again limited and it was finally abandoned two years later.
