Brief History Within five years of the creation of an Open Pairs event, the Gimson Trophy, the LCBA deemed it appropriate to instigate competitions restricted to Mixed Pairs and to Ladies Pairs. For some 20 years it seemed to be generally accepted that this was the natural order of things; that whilst male pairs were catered for by the open event, mixed and female pairs needed competitions from which the naturally stronger male pairs were excluded. However in April 1972 Margaret Buckby donated a cup for a competition by male pairs alone which was first played in the season 1972-73. |
