Three Counties Competition - July

at East Midlands Bridge Centre Spondon

Leicestershire absolutely dominated the July round of the Three Counties competition at the East Midlands Bridge Centre Spondon.

Last season Leicestershire won the overall event of three rounds by just 7 IMPs. This year they carried forward from the first round an incredible lead of 400 IMPs! Leicestershire scored +278 IMPs, Nottinghamshire -122 IMPs, Derbyshire -156 IMPs.

Three Counties Competition - August

Leicestershire finished third in the August round of the Three Counties competition. The margins were however small and they carried forward, to the final September round, most of the advantage gained in July.

Over the two rounds

Division 1

County BC lead the division with +48 from Leicester Bridge Centre on +37.
The divisional aggregate totals are:
Leicestershire +77, Nottinghamshire -23, Derbyshire -54.

Nottinghamshire -190 IMPs

Division 2

Overall the Endowed Schools with +74 lie second to Derby A on +81. Aggregate: Leicestershire +13, Derbyshire +11, Nottinghamshire -24.

Division 3

Aggregate: Leicestershire +108, Derbyshire +35, Nottinghamshire -143.

Three Counties Competition - Final Round and Overall Results

at East Midlands Bridge Centre Spondon
Thursday 20th September

The Leicestershire Club sides enjoyed very mixed fortunes in the final round of the 2001 Three Counties Competition and although, as expected, the county have won the overall event, the cumulative lead over second placed Derbyshire, was cut from 206 to just 69 IMPs.

Division 1

Leicester Bridge Centre (Jeff Ball, David Deane, KM Patel and Ramnik Samani) with +51 on the night, just caught County BC (Marjorie Gilbertson, Brian Marlow, Robert Northage and Tony Odams) +40, sharing second place overall on +88 - just 2 behind the winners. Magazine finished seventh on -76.

Nottinghamshire -89

Division 2

Loughborough Endowed Schools (Malcolm Caporn, Jonathan DeSouza, Mike Lambert and Megan Starkings) with +51, took their total to +125, second to the winners on +169. Loughborough University finished sixth on -40, Phoenix seventh on -58.

Division 3

Barkby (Anne Blackwell, Pat Emery, John & Audrey Mount) advanced to +87 second overall, with Lougborough Town third on +25 third and Blaby sixth with +8.
